XceedID enters partnership with Cogent Systems for biometric and contactless RFID solution

April 15, 2005 —XceedID Corporation, a leading provider of contactless RFID security products, has partnered with Cogent Systems to deliver a new fingerprint reader for smart card applications, the company says.

Under the agreement, XceedID will incorporate its RFID technology into the Cogent SmartGate fingerprint reader. The new product, SmartGateX, will feature secure 13.56 MHz contactless technology compliant with ISO 15693 and ISO 14443.

SmartGateX, which will be available in May and marketed exclusively by XceedID Corporation to security industry OEMs, provides users with enhanced biometric security for facility access. With the SmartGateX as part of a security system, fingerprint templates are enrolled into contactless smart cards and used with biometric readers for heightened security applications.

XceedIDs new SmartGateX product will feature one-to-one biometric template authentication. This means that a given persons fingerprint template will be embedded in the ISO-X contactless smart cards secure memory and this person will be the only authorized user. When the card is presented to the reader, a finger is also placed on the readers fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint template is authenticated at the reader after the reader compares the live fingerprint with data from the card. If the two are authenticated the user is granted access.
